Welcome to The Havens, Motueka River Valley

Under Offer

After a wonderful 7 years here, we have decided it is time to move closer to town and Richard's work, so The Havens is sadly being sold. We are currently under contract and hope to move out mid-June - however the new owners are a lovely young family who wish to carry on the tradition of hospitality experienced here.

At this stage we have closed dates for bookings - however please get in touch via our Contact form and we can connect you with the new owners as they get established.

Breathing Space for your Soul

The Havens is a unique property, situated alongside the Motueka River surrounded by the Kahurangi Mountains on one side and the Moutere Hills on the other.

Our 55-acre farm combines pasture, orchard, olive grove and bush to enable you to truly switch off, listen to the birdsong and relax in an easygoing luxury environment. Our accommodation is totally self-contained and private, but supported by the family who are on hand to answer questions, provide anything you might be missing or give guidance on the local region.

You are welcome to pick fruit from the trees, wander among the sheep and help collect the free-range eggs if you like - in springtime, we often have hand-reared lambs to feed and guests often enjoy meeting them. Our sheep include 3 types of rare breed sheep - Arapawa, Karakul and a small group of Swiss Valais Black-Nose which we are breeding up. We also have a small herd of Llamas you can meet. Sue enjoys felting with the mix of different types of wool and will happily explain and demonstrate the art of felting - and you are welcome to have a go if you are keen!

Centrally located to 3 National Parks

Guests enjoy living outside the busy tourist town of Motueka, but still have easy access to the Abel Tasman National Park, the Kahurangi National Park and the Nelson Lakes National Park - as well as the many local vineyards, craft breweries, artisans and fruit growers the region is famous for. Motueka is the heart of hop growing for New Zealand and the region has some unique boutique vineyards (Richard's personal recommended wine tour will take you to meet some amazing winemakers as you taste their wine).

The trout fishing is challenging in crystal clear rivers and streams with wild brown trout in abundance. Local guides can be booked through us to ensure you see and catch these beautiful fish - or you can ask Richard for his favourite spots and advice for free (no guarantee of success though!).

Wander up our track to the rock, or cross over to the Nelson Forest tracks which wander for miles through the pine forests with views to Mt Arthur and beyond. Local walks include the Mt Arthur tracks, exploring the old gold settlement at Whangapeka or wandering the coastal walkways around Motueka, Riwaka, and the Nelson bays region.

Cycling the Great Taste Cycle Trail?

Relax after a good day's cycling in the spa overlooking the river valley, surrounded by mountains, native birds and the sounds of the farm. Enjoy cooking a gourmet BBQ meal with one of our optional BBQ packs - without having to carry the food on your bike. Finish off with one of Sue's homemade desserts, a cheese or fruit platter and a glass of our homemade wine, while your bikes charge in the garage.

We are only short step away from the Baton Bridge over the river, where the latest part of the trail crosses the river, and have a trailer so if you get stuck on the way we can always come to you and give you a lift here!

Check out the details of the trail from the Heart of Biking site, or for a more personalised tour talk to our partner Nicky from Wheelie Fantastic.
